Town of Pulteney Historian Report

April 2009

All of the deaths and births in the Town have been put on the computer for the Town Clerk. The dates range

from  1847 to 2003 for births and 1847 to 2009 for deaths. The marriages are the only statistics left to complete.

In finishing up the deaths, I ran across a person who died of internal injuries 7 days after "having been

trodden upon by a vicious cow".  (Did we have undiagnosed Mad Cow Disease back then ?)

I'm having a great time getting some of the school information together. Richard French came down with a

1954 Hammondsport yearbook to help figure out the kids names in the Pulteney School picture from 1953.

I talked over the phone with Charlie Egresi and he helped me to complete the list of kids in a 1955 Pulteney

School picture by using his 1955 Hammondsport yearbook. Because I didn't go to Pulteney or Hammondsport

schools, I didn't realize that the old Hammondsport yearbooks have a picture of the Pulteney classes in it.

Eventually, I'd like to set up a display of all of the schools in the Township of Pulteney. There were so many.

If you know of anyone who has any old Hammondsport yearbooks that they'd like to donate to the

Town, we would love to have them. The majority of Pulteney kids went to Hammondsport after the

Pulteney School closed, although a few went to Prattsburgh, so Prattsburgh yearbooks would be

welcome as well.

Mrs Lorraine K Loomis-Konig and her husband came over from across the lake to the Town Hall one day to

research the Tomer files. She is related to them. They made a lot of copies of information in the files and said

they'd be back again to look at some more information.  They enjoyed their visit with us.

Requests for the Town of Pulteney Historian 2009

April 2009

A lady called from Penn Yan to find out some information regarding the Andrews family. As we talked, I found

out that her name was Beverly Gleason and that she was a sister to Bob and Dick Conley of Pulteney. She also

happened to be a niece of the woman who was married to the man who became my uncle after his wife's death

by marrying my aunt. What a small world we live in !!!!!!!!  I was able to answer her questions and in return, she

sent me a copy of her brother Bob's obituary which we didn't have in our files. He was a long time resident of

Pulteney.

Donations given to Town of Pulteney 2009

April 2009

A beautiful picture of the Pulteney Bridge in Bath, England was donated to us by Paul Schnipelsky. It will

look great along with the maps out in the entry hall. I have sent him a thank you note.
