Town of Pulteney Historian Report
December 2010
Work is progressing slowly on the Glenview Cemetery records and the Steuben County census.
I received two new pictures for the "Military Wall". They have been finished and are ready to hang. The
pictures to be added are of Edward and William Nudd.
I met with Ms Jane Chappell from Michigan on September 24th of this year. I had given her wrong
turning directions from Boyd Hill, so when she didn't show up and I realized what I had done, I got in the
car to go home and try to call her on her cell phone. As I was headed home, I came up behind a car from
Michigan, so I flashed my lights and honked my horn. I guess she thought she was in my way, so she
turned down Parker Hill Road by John Pizura's house. I turned also and flashed my lights and tooted my
horn all the way down the hill. She finally stopped at the bottom so I jumped out of my car and introduced
myself. She and her sister followed me over to the Town Hall. We talked over what little we had on her
ancestors (Hubbards). I then led them over to the Prattsburgh Town Hall to meet with Lenora Applebee,
the historian, to get more information. She thanked me and off they went. We just received a package
from her that has the family history of Eli and Ithiel Hubbard and their descendants who lived in Pulteney
until about 1830 for our file. As well as the family history, there is a copy of the inventory of Eli Hubbard
who died in Pulteney in 1813. His estate was appraised by Joel Pratt and Abel Hubbard at the request of
Ithiel Hubbard. I have attached a copy of this inventory listing. Included in the package was a thank you
note telling me that she will never forget me tooting and honking all the way down that terrible steep hill !!!!!
I also have attached a copy of a poem written by Ruth Hall and given to me by Thelma Peek. Ruth
lived on Boyd Hill until she passed away. I'm not sure if she lived here full time as a child or just weekends,
or just summers. Whatever it was, the poem is interesting and she seems to know who she's writing about.
