Town of Pulteney Historian Report

May 2009

I'm still working on the marriages. It'll be a few more weeks to finish up this project. I'm still working on

indexing what we have in the files and cupboards and verifying that we have the items that are listed in the black

binder.  I still have the boxes of newspapers to work with.

Phyllis Peek is working with the servicemen pictures trying to make them all a uniform size for the "Military

Wall" in the corner.

I left Fred Schulte a message regarding a printer. It may be more feasible to buy an inexpensive one than to

try and hook up another computer to the Town Clerk's printer that won't be available only on certain days. I also

am wondering if the computer can be wired up to the TV access for internet instead of going to the Town Clerk's

room. I'm not sure how that stuff all works.

An interesting little bit of information I ran across. A man married and had 3 daughters and 1 son. The son

died at a very young age. When the man's wife died, he married again. He had a son with his second wife.

Apparently, they really spoiled him. As a result, he never learned how to work for a living. When the father died,

in his will, he stated that the son was to get $500. If he had a job after a year, he should get another $500 and if

he had a job after two years, he should get another $1000. However, the mother died 6 months later without a

will so the son petitioned to get the estate. He went through the money quickly and lost the property and home

for taxes. He never did get a regular job and never married. He became somewhat of a hermit, died a pauper, and

was buried by the county in Glenview Cemetery. I remember this man when I was a young person.

Requests for the Town of Pulteney Historian 2009

May 2009

I received another e-mail from Leona Jensen regarding the E C Barton weather diary. She was requesting

information on Sodom (Elmbois) and a mill that was down on the lake road.

Donations given to Town of Pulteney 2009

May 2009

Some wonderful things have been donated by Nancy Cole. Two family bibles of the Stones with dates of births,

marriages, and deaths, wonderful old pictures of the Stone and Harwood families in a beautiful red velvet album,

letters from Emmett Stone to daughter Clara, a family picture,  and a promise of more to come.

What a treasure !!!!!!!!!

Two pictures of the home of Bernard & Margaret Snyder when they purchased it. (It eventually burned

completely down.)

Thank you notes have been sent to both donors.
