Town of Pulteney Historian Report
October 2011
Mark Wright has been here and will be finishing up the “Military Wall” soon. Many compliments have been received regarding the display. I’m hoping it will spur more people to send pictures to me to be prepared for the wall.
A thank you note was received from the Pulteney Volunteer Fire Department for providing pictures for the 75th Anniversary Celebration.
I’m still working on the cemetery records. I just ran across the death of a man in 1944 that died due to internal injuries after being trodden by a vicious cow. ( Did they have “Mad Cow Disease” back then???)
.
I have picked up some of the pictures from Frames Galore & More. They have done a wonderful job in removing the cracks out of the picture of the Pollay blacksmith shop. (Later known as the Holley blacksmith shop) The preservation of these pictures is important to the history of our town. I now can mail the requested pictures of the blacksmith shop to Floyd Holley in Georgia. I also will be taking some of the Civil War soldier’s pictures to Frames Galore & More to open the back to see if there are names on the back of the photos to tell us who they are. If we can tell who they are, I will have a label put beneath each picture so other people can tell who they are as well. Mr Gary Gibson from Pennsylvania was interested in knowing which ones were his relatives.

I have received a letter from Paul Schatz from Fitchburg, Wisconsin regarding information on William & Abigail Sarles . They were his great-great grandparents and are buried in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery.

Donations given to Town of Pulteney
October 2011
Joanne Fowler (who lives in Rochester but has a seasonal place on Armstrong Road) bought two books from the “Yellow Barn” on County Route 78, and donated them to the town. They both belonged to Mary Wisse. One was the Corning Free Academy commencement from 1926 in which Mary was a graduating member. The other was her workbook from American History Part 2. A thank you note will be sent.
